Better Methods for Setting Meaningful Metrics

Metrics have, in recent years, been examined and reexamined for their influence on everything from our management engagement to employee performance. Metrics have ridden the high of being a sure focus of how we show our success to bottom out in how many in industry have attempted to prove metrics drive negative behaviors and attempt to quantify human failure. Metrics have the power to be destructive and to be effective. So, how do we reconcile ourselves with the proposed mandated reporting of metrics along with holding a balanced view of the power and impact of metrics?
