White Paper: The Need for Capability Analysis

Targets and goals are commonly established by organizations as a way to improve performance.  Specifications are also established to assure compliance with quality or regulatory requirements.  In both cases there is a need to understand the capability of the system in order to set appropriate targets or specification ranges.  Performing a capability study can reveal the level of variation that is inherent to all processes and provide guidance concerning proper statistical establishment of targets and specification ranges.
