Corrective Action or Correction: Which is it?

Understand the important difference between a Corrective Action and Correction.

Corrective and Preventive Action

Corrective Action or Correction?

When used correctly, the CAPA system is one of the most powerful systems available to drive major improvements and decrease waste. This is only the case when taking actions (corrective and preventative) and not just implementing corrections. The distinction between the difference in a correction versus a corrective action is not well understood. A misunderstanding of these terms has led to bad habits and problems within the Investigation and CAPA system. This course will help learners understand the distinct difference between a corrective action, and a correction. This understanding will support more effective root cause identification, stronger actions to prevent reoccurrence, and a more robust CAPA system,

This training is done through epath, the PathWise online learning management system. ePath is for targeted knowledge-based learning. Our web based training focuses on terms, definitions, regulations and expectations.

After taking this course learners will be able to:

  • Define both a corrective action and correction, and explain the difference between the two.
  • Understand how corrections are performed at a high level.
  • Describe how a corrective action relates to root cause.
